Rose at 6. Gray, & aperiently to be wet. ― Breakfast at 8. Very dull oppressive day up till noon. Made tracing, & outline for Lord Clermont’s picture, & about 11, got to work in the garden: but then came frequent showers, tho’ I did not wholly desist. At 1 lunch. At 3 some bright ― & difficulty in painting. Mrs. Whitters came: H. Dennet is to be at Worthing on Monday. Worked very hard ― though not well ― till 5½. Then walked by the village to Broadwater & Worthing, & bought newspapers. Returned at 6½ or 7 to dinner. Afterwards ― the old piano. And the Comet ― a very wonderful & fine sight, from 8 to 9½ penned out. ―
