Rising at 6½ ― finer day. Packed. Prayers, ― & the apparition of a fearfully fat boy ― crophead ― horrid face & back, ― in woman clothes: ― it was [Carla] Collingwood! ― At breakfast she was queer & odd ― but that dear good Mrs. H. was as kind to her as if she hardly were but a higher order of humanity. Talked with & read to the sisters & Mrs. H.: ― it is a kind of grief to leave them, especially [looks Arabic],― who is softened ―& yet is placid & interesting in her blindness. ― At 12¼ ― I came away in a carriage. Bright & clear, & lake & hills were lovely. ― Rail at 1.20 ― & Kendal by 2. Gray cold tour! Yet remembering me of Mrs. Parker: ― & the King’s Arms. ― Gig ― by Sizergh & the tree filled meadows ― to Levens ― by 3. No one at home. William only; gave me lunch & I wrote a bit: & then paced the old old garden, & walked into the lonely park. ― On the other side of river, fell in with ― Lane ― 4 [girl]: much talk of Bowen. ―

To the hall. Alfred Bagot: beautiful drawing of Mr. Weston. H. Paget. ―

Dinner talk, Mr. & Mrs N.L. ― &c. ―――
