Edward Lear's Diaries

I have started a blog publishing for the first time the full text of the diaries of Edward Lear -- artist, traveller and of course Nonsense writer -- from 1 January 1858, the earliest surviving date, to 12 May 1862, his fiftieth birthday.

The idea is to post each entry 150 years after it was written but, because of the delay in starting, 1858 will be posted at the rate of about five entries a day from 7 October 2008, so that I should be able to start posting single entries by the end of December.
