Ezekiah's Pool (Wilson et al. 1881, I.13)<\/p><\/div>\n

Rose early \u2015 no sleep \u2015 unwell. Set off at 6. Mahomed: & vast green bright plain. Gray lines of Pilgrims \u2015 Sicily. 3\u00bd hours of good roads \u2015 then rocky, & continually worsening. Hard work for bad horse. Short stay for Lunch. \u2015 On Ab\u03bfu Gosh1<\/a><\/sup> \u2015 always ascending \u2015 very rough stone roads \u2015 valley \u2015 ascent \u2015 great & steep descent; \u2015 then village of Kolonieh2<\/a><\/sup> \u2015 & thence a long & very heavy pull to the top of a great height \u2015 whence a long road at summit \u2015 ending in a view of the west side of Jerusalem on the same plane \u2015 & not with a great hollow between me & it, as I expected. Entrance street crammed with crowds \u2015 & it was very difficult to reach the Haisser\u2019s Hotel: once there, more so to get rooms. At last I took one looking into Hezekiah\u2019s pool. Tried afterwards to find the Holy Sepulchre church, but failed: so went with Giorgio<\/a> past the English Church \u2015 & out of the Neby Daoud3<\/a><\/sup> gate \u2015 & down the walls as far as the closed\u00a0 Dung gate \u2015: there \u2015 the sun was just setting, & I remembered the gates were shut then \u2015 so we had to run back \u2015 & got in time. Dinner at the table d\u2019h\u00f4te.<\/p>\n
