Foggy ― but dry. ― Wrote till 11. At 12.10 ― off by rail to Leatherhead ― & there by 1.5. Walked to Ellens. Poor Ellinor! ― what a crush of all that was so happy! ― After dinner ― (poor W. was asleep till then,) I went in to see him ―: he is greatly changed, & I do not think can live. How gentle & good & unselfish a man he has ever been!! ― Well may poor Ellinor say ― “after 40 years of such a life ― it is dreadful to look to loneliness & desolation only! ―” ― A Mrs. Waite came in ― their minister’s wife: & I wrote to Ann. At 4¾ left Ellen & walked to the station ― & so rail to town by 6.15. walk & cab to Stratford Place. Letters from F.L.J.J. HornbyWyatt & Col. Leake. ― Wrote.

Cold & unwell.
