Slept well early ― but afterwards, not so.

Rose at 7¾. ― Breakfast very “traditional” & comfortable. ― Newspapers ― bad, as to Italy. Very kind & nice letter from J.H.B.

Afterwards, worked at arranging & dividing things all day long. ―

S.W. Clowes came about 12 ―: & his visit was pleasant. ―

About 3½ went out to call on ―
E. Drummond’s
Crakes
Farquhar out of town.
T. Baring.
Mrs. Stanley.

But the foggy damp bullies me. I cannot get over it. ―

Returned to dine as yesterday: ― & I wrote afterwards. But it is a dead=dream of life. ―
