Weary & annoying. ― Yet ― I rose, & after breakfast & G.’s lesson, & the accounts ―: Greek lesson. ― Then, off & on, worked all day at 3 pictures ― Bethlehem & the 2 Jerusalems. Gallier, (whom I saw on the stairs yesterday ―) called, & S.W.C.; & later came letters from Bernard & Jane Hunt: they are losing many friends, ― yet she wishes him to come here, & I shall stay on, if so they can contrive. ― Saturday Reviews also ― from F.L. I suppose. Worked at the Bethlehem till 5½ ― S.W.C. here till 4½. ― Then, sate, with Mr. Woodward & read papers to 6½. Dined. ― Good Giorgio ever the same. ― Wrote Greek. ―

People downstairs giving a ball: ― happily, the floors are not as in Corfû.
