Rose at 9. Did not go out. ― Lushington came in at 12 ― & at 2 we walked by Viró round to the Kombitzi1 monastery, & then on up to Ἒυροποῦλος & to Ποταμὸ, & back. It rained a little, but the day was still cold. The walk was passably pleasant. I dined ―  (it was my turn to dine with him,) at L.’s. And during dinner it was pleasant enough ― after dinner he examined my medicine chart, but I suppose grew bored, & finally seemed to wish me at the Devil. ― That however may not be the case, yet he is an unlucky man in his manner ― & one certainly wishes one had never known or liked him, ― so little can his ordinary mode of expression be understood.
