Alack alack! Rose al solito.1

At 6 ― came Παπαδόπουλος, all in tears ― his only child being about to die. He was very “demonstrative” ― but I allowed for grief ― & worked out my two hours solo. After breakfast I found I had lost my little sketch book with all my Mt. Ida, Smyrna, and many other sketches. I did no work, but hunted for it vainly. At 12 Mrs. Ragnenean, Mrs. Forbes, Mrs. Saunders, Miss S. Miss R. Miss Henderson, Miss Hall, & others unknown, came, & saw the Athos drawings &c. After that I painted a bit, & at 4 walked the usual round overtaking Curzon & Ponsonby.

Dining alone, & bed early.
